Privacy & terms
What happens to your data when you visit this little corner of the internet, and a few ground rules for using it.
Who runs this site
tomas.tech is the personal portfolio and notebook of Tomas Jurkevičius, based in France. I am the controller for personal data I process in connection with this website. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
The short version: no advertising, no analytics trackers, no accounts, and no mailing list. The site remembers your display preferences on your device. If you email me, I use your message to reply.
Data & purposes
Visiting the website
Your browser sends technical information needed to deliver pages, such as your IP address, requested URL, browser information, and request time. The hosting provider may process this information in delivery and security logs to operate the site, prevent abuse, and investigate faults. The legal basis, where the GDPR applies, is the legitimate interest in providing a secure, working website.
Contacting me
If you email me, I receive your email address, the name you provide, your message, and any attachments. I use these to respond and manage our conversation, based on my legitimate interest in handling correspondence. If you request steps toward a contract, that processing may instead be necessary for those pre-contractual steps. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information.
Retention
I keep correspondence only as long as needed for the conversation and any resulting work, or to meet legal obligations and establish or defend legal claims. Retention depends on the purpose and applicable legal requirements; there is no single period for every message. Hosting and email providers apply their own operational retention to service logs and backups. You can ask about your specific data by email.
There is no automated decision-making or profiling by this website. Providing personal information by email is optional, although I need a reply address to answer you.
Cookies & preferences
The website itself does not set tracking cookies. It uses your browser’s local storage for two preferences you control in the header:
| Key | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
theme | Your light or dark theme choice. | Until changed or cleared. |
themeMotion | Your motion on or off choice. | Until changed or cleared. |
These values stay in your browser and are not sent to me. Without a saved choice, the site follows your system preferences. Clear this site’s browser data to remove them; blocking storage still lets you use the site and change preferences for the current session. No advertising or analytics storage is used. Fonts are served with the site rather than requested from Google by your browser.
Providers & international transfers
The website is hosted on Netlify, which handles page delivery and associated technical data. Email is handled by the providers involved in our email exchange. Service providers and their subprocessors may process data outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area.
Where the GDPR requires safeguards for a transfer, these must be supported by an applicable adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. Contact me for information about the arrangements relevant to your data.
I do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Data may be disclosed where legally required or necessary to protect legal rights. Links to GitHub, LinkedIn, and other external sites take you to services with their own privacy notices; those services are not embedded advertising or social tracking widgets here.
Your privacy rights
Depending on your location and the applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, restriction of processing, and portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. If processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing. These rights have legal conditions and exceptions.
Email [email protected] to exercise a right. I may need proportionate information to verify your identity. Under the GDPR, I normally respond within one month; a permitted extension of up to two further months will be explained within the first month.
You can complain to your local supervisory authority. In France, this is the CNIL. You do not have to contact me first. Where other privacy laws apply, including applicable US state laws, I will honour the rights and response periods they require, including authorised-agent requests and appeals where provided by law. You will not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising a privacy right.
This site is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly solicit personal information from children. If you believe a child has supplied personal data, contact me so I can review and remove it where appropriate.
Terms of use
Reading, linking & reuse
You are welcome to browse, share links, and quote short excerpts with attribution and a link to the source, subject to applicable law. Unless a specific licence says otherwise, original writing, artwork, and other site content remain protected by copyright. Third-party names, marks, and materials belong to their respective owners. Code reuse is governed by the licence supplied with that code; public availability alone is not a licence.
Reasonable use
Do not interfere with the site, attempt unauthorised access, distribute malicious material, or use it unlawfully. Automated access must respect the site’s availability and applicable law. If you discover a security issue, please report it privately to [email protected].
Information & availability
Projects and articles are shared for general information and experimentation. They are not professional legal, security, financial, or other advice. I try to keep things accurate, but content may become outdated and the site may change or be unavailable. External links do not imply endorsement or control of another site.
Responsibility & applicable law
To the extent permitted by law, the site is provided as available, without warranties of accuracy, uninterrupted availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. I am not responsible for losses arising from reliance on the site where liability can lawfully be excluded. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded, or limits mandatory consumer, privacy, or other statutory rights.
French law applies to these terms, subject to any mandatory protections and rights to bring proceedings in your country of residence that apply to you. These terms do not create a paid service or a client relationship.
Changes & contact
I will update this page when the site or its data practices change and revise the date above. Material changes will be highlighted here as appropriate. For questions about this notice, reuse of content, or your data, write to [email protected].
